General practice accreditation is the independent recognition that an eligible general practice complies with the current edition of the RACGP Standards for general practices.

Who is eligible for general practice accreditation?

You can apply for accreditation if your practice meets the RACGP definition of general practice, that is, provides patient centred, continuing, comprehensive and coordinated primary care to individuals, families and communities. 

What does accreditation with AGPAL involve?

There are six main steps in the accreditation process:

  1. Register your practice with AGPAL. AGPAL will provide you with access to accreditation support and resources
  2. Conduct your practice’s self-assessment to ensure AGPAL gains an accurate understanding of how you will meet the standards
  3. Submit your self-assessment which signifies your readiness to be surveyed
  4. AGPAL will arrange a site survey visit with experienced general practice surveyors 
  5. Recognition when your practice achieves accreditation
  6. Continuous quality improvement throughout the period of accreditation.
