Better support your IBD patients

New and easily accessible resources for GPs

Currently, Australia has one of the highest incidence rates of IBD globally, with numbers increasing each year, particularly in young people.

Recognising the need to better support IBD patients and GPs and physicians, Crohn’s & Colitis Australia, with consortium partners the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and AGPAL will soon be launching the ‘IBD for GPs and physicians’ eLearning platform as part of the IBD GP Aware Project.

Recognising the constant time pressures faced by GPs and need to obtain medical information to operate in line with best practice guidelines, IBD for GPs and physicians will home an easy to access national education and training program. IBD for GPs and physicians aims to increase knowledge, awareness and uptake of evidence-based resources for general practices in relation to inflammatory bowel disease.

The IBD GP Aware project stems from a priority area identified in the Federal Government’s IBD National Action Plan to support general practitioners to more effectively participate in IBD management through awareness, education, and continuing professional development.

Leading IBD professionals, including Dr Jane Smith and Dr Eva Zhang, have been involved in the development of new and updated materials to ensure effective and best practice management techniques have been applied. A key accomplishment has included the development of new summary guidelines to provide insightful, quick and essential IBD information to GPs in minimal time.

This webinar highlights some key updates on the project, a GP opinion about managing IBD in the clinical setting, information about new guidelines and upcoming education about IBD for GPs and Physicians.

General practitioners are encouraged to view the webinar to learn how they can best support the Federal Government’s IBD National Action Plan and to learn about the new tools and resources available to them via IBD GP Aware.
