IBD management for GPs and Physicians – upcoming webinar series schedule

The dates for six new Inflammatory Bowel Disease GP Aware (IBD GP Aware) workshops have been announced. These online workshops will support GPs and Physicians to more effectively participate in IBD management and better support IBD patients. IBD GP Aware is led by Crohn’s & Colitis Australia with consortium partners the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and AGPAL. The project is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. For more information on this initiative, please read our previous article.

The upcoming IBD GP Aware workshops have been submitted to the RACGP for CPD approval, with workshops one to five receiving CPD allocations and workshop six pending approval.

The registration links and CPD allocations for each workshop are listed below.

Workshop 1: The GP’s role in early detection of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

Presented by Dr Paresh Dawda and Dr Eva Zhang, this workshop will enhance your knowledge and understanding through a specialised series of activities and scenarios relating to:

  • Early detection of IBD features and symptoms
  • The different clinical presentations of Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC)
  • The difference between irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and IBD investigations that GPs can conduct to assist diagnosis.

Workshop 2: Early intervention, therapies, referral and triage

  • Early intervention for people with suspected IBD and those in ‘at risk’ clinical scenarios
  • Goals of treatment, including the step-up approach to therapies and IBD management, and the role of the GP
  • Criteria for a quality IBD referral, importance of good referrals and closing the loop on all referrals.

Workshop 3: Management of IBD and preventative health care
